Acupuncture
And Traditional Chinese Medicine & Herbs
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a 2,000 year old system, originated in China, and has been further developed throughout Japan, Korea, Vietnam and now the West !!
Using exceptionally fine filiform needles, best acupuncture in Austin works by directly accessing the body’s Nervous System through points organized along channels called meridians. The primary acupuncture points are located in areas of heightened electric potential and therein stimulate the body’s healing cells to gather & focus their action on the needled site and point indications.
Traditional Chinese Medicine
Chinese Medicine is particularly useful in relieving pain from musculoskeletal injury, menstrual cramping, headaches and arthritis. I also find this medicine particularly effective at treating.
Western Medicine excels at treating infectious disease and in responding to emergency crises. Chinese Medicine, in its implementation in the US, is unparalleled in its ability to treat chronic disease; it is especially effective at strengthening the immune and digestive systems to return normal organ function after trauma and stress have worn the body down.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion is the burning of the refined leaf matter of the mugwort plant, Artemisia princeps (Japanese variety), which we call “mogusa or moxa.” This treatment method is performed through the application of thermal stimulation to the mogusa wherever it is placed on the patient’s skin.
When moxibustion is performed, the practitioner may place the mogusa directly on top of garlic, ginger or miso and light it up from there. If the mogusa is rolled up in a bundle and wrapped in paper to form a stick of 1-2 centimeters in diameter then we call this application “stick moxa.” The moxa stick is then held above the patient’s skin at a distance of several centimeters and placed over acupuncture points to warm and nourish the body through the point
Fire Cupping
Fire cupping is a therapeutic process that uses glass cups and a small fire to ease cases of muscular pain and tension, skin conditions, respiratory conditions, and other conditions that can be due to stress or tension in the body. Fire cupping is like a reverse massage- it uses suction instead of pressure to ease tension and pain in the body. The suction inside of the cup is created by lighting a small flame in the cup, which clears all of the air in the cup, and once they are placed on the body the cups pulls the skin into the cup. The cups can leave red/purple/pink marks on the body where they were placed. These should go away within 3-5 days depending on the person.

Frequently Asked Questions
At Live Love Relax Massage + Wellness, our first priority is to make sure that each patient is as comfortable and informed as possible. Every new patient considering the best Acupuncture in Austin and herbal treatment should be well informed about what to expect. We’ve put up the following FAQs to answer the questions that new patients ask most commonly.
Before your initial visit with us, kindly take a time to review the following:
Acupuncture operates by directly interfacing with the body’s nervous system, utilizing specific points located along channel pathways known as ‘meridians” These meridians establish connections between internal organs and sensory organs, such as linking the lungs to the nose. In doing so, acupuncture has the potential to alleviate issues like allergies, tinnitus, and visual impairments. The key acupuncture points are situated in areas with heightened electrical potential, encouraging the body’s healing cells to converge and concentrate their efforts at the needled site. Furthermore, manipulating the needles prompts the release of adenosine, a hormone that may contribute to the localized pain relief that patients often experience.
My practice focuses on a gentle Japanese acupuncture style that stimulates these points without causing discomfort. If you ever feel any unease, please communicate it to me, and I will make the necessary adjustments to ensure your comfort. Your feedback is highly valued, and I respect your understanding of your body’s needs.
I exclusively use single-use, sterile disposable needles, ensuring your complete physical safety. These needles are never inserted over sensitive anatomical structures. Additionally, all medical surfaces are meticulously disinfected between patients to prevent the transmission of pathogens. Our clinic space welcomes and respects all emotional expressions and is inclusive of individuals of all genders, sexual orientations, races, nationalities, and religious beliefs.
The duration of treatment largely depends on the severity of the condition and the duration of the patient’s experience with it leading up to their first visit. For instance, an acute low back strain may see resolution in 2-3 treatments, provided there’s no significant structural damage. Conversely, a chronic case of irritable bowel syndrome that has persisted for 15 years may necessitate weekly treatments for several months to fully rewire the body’s pattern of dysfunction.
The frequency of treatments primarily depends on the specific condition being addressed. In general, a recommended approach is to commence with 2-3 treatments per week, acting as a kind of “braces” to retrain the body for enhanced functionality.
For individuals dealing with chronic insomnia, it's advisable to initiate treatment with 2-3 sessions per week initially to establish a stable sleep pattern. Over time, patients can gradually reduce the frequency to 1 treatment per week and eventually maintain their progress with 1-2 treatments per month.
In instances of recent injuries, a regimen of 2-3 treatments per week, coupled with the use of topical and internal herbal medicine, proves beneficial. This approach facilitates a smoother journey through the initial stages of recovery, leading to reduced pain, decreased swelling, and improved joint function.
In all situations, the incorporation of regular herbal medicine can complement and reinforce the effects of acupuncture treatment. This combined approach enables patients to experience relief from symptoms between acupuncture appointments.
